Edge’s President Participates in Health Care Background Screenings in State Capital

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. — This week (Nov. 2nd, 2009) began with Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) Service Corp member, Joe Langford of Edge, in town for meetings with legislators about HB 201, filed by Rep. Ari Porth (D-96) and SB 428, filed by Sen. Nan Rich (D-34), which relate to tightening up procedures for criminal background screenings. Edge is a third-party vendor which provides these screenings for FHCA member facilities, so Joe was able to reiterate FHCA’s message about what nursing homes are doing to ensure the safety of residents through the current Level I and Level II screenings facilities are already conducting.

Last week, FHCA also received feedback from District I President Monica Calonge, who met with Rep. Julio Robaina (R-117), and District XV President Debra Wallace, who met with Rep. Ritch Workman (R-30), both of who serve on the committees which met on this issue on last Tuesday. These meetings were another chance to help legislators gain a better understanding of our sector’s current practices regarding background screenings.
